Your plan will specify any number of steps that are relative to a fixed reference point (date). You can have multiple fixed reference points (dates). The reference dates needed depend on the type of plan you are designing. Remember that the steps in your plan, or the calculated dates will all be a number of days, months and years before or after a reference date.

 

For example:

(a) If you are arranging a wedding then your steps will all be relevant to the wedding date.

(b) If you are designing a sales follow-up plan then you would specify the date of sale as a reference date.

(c) A lawyer's personal injury claim procedure may involve several reference dates, eg (i) the date the client first consults (b) the date of injury, etc.
